Product Description:
This pen is inspired by a Japanese folk-tale called Urashima Taro. In this story, Urashima Taro is a fisherman who rescues a turtle from kids that were bullying it. The turtle returns to Taro later and tells him that it wants to reward him by inviting him to the underwater dragon palace. Taro then climbs on the turtles back and is taken to the Dragon Palace where he eventually finds out the turtle is actually the beautiful princess there named Otohime. A few days later, he gets homesick and wants to go home. The princess then gives him a jewel box as a departing gift and says to not open it. When he returns home, he realizes that somehow over 100 years had passed and that he recognized no one. Being lonely, he decided to open the jewel box in which white smoke appeared and then he suddenly turns into an old man.
On the pen, Taro is carrying a jewel box while sitting on a turtle as shown on the barrel and Otohime, the dragon palace princess, is shown on the cap.
On the top of the cap, there is an icon of a palace and at the bottom of the barrel, there is a hexagonal pattern like what would be found on the back of tortoise shell which represent longevity.
About Danitrio Yokozuna Fountain Pen Series:
This is Danitrio's largest fountain pen line, giving the maki-e artisans the largest canvas to depict their masterpiece. When placed side-by-side with other pens, it towers over them with elegance and intimidation.
In sumo wrestling, the "Yokozuna" is the highest rank a sumo wrestler can achieve. The term means horizontal rope which is derived from the rope that is worn around the Yokozuna's waist.

This pen is furnished with an 18k Gold, #50 nib. The #50 nib comes in only one standard tip size: broad.

About the Artisan:
This pen was handpainted by Minoru Oohata (Rakkan). Born in 1951. He trained as an apprentice under Maki-E artisan Kashigi Hozo and learned modern art from Kakinoki Akira. He is recognized by the Japanese Government as a Dento Kogei-shi, which an honorary title meaning "master of traditional crafts" and is given only to a select few artisans who have a significant contribution to their craft. He's passionate about acquiring more knowledge in brush and Maki-E techniques. His works are promoted at exhibitions including Nihon Bijutsuin.
