This pen is inspired by a Japanese folklore called Tsuru No-Ongaeshi. The story begins with a man who saved the crane from hunters who had shot it with an arrow. The hunter took care of the crane until it was able to fly again. Later one evening, a beautiful woman appeared at his door stating that she was his wife. The man was taken aback and answered that he was poor and would not be able to support her. The woman stated that that was not an issue and that she had an abundance of rice to feed them. This bag of rice magically would stay full every day. She then goes to one of the rooms in his home to make something and warned him not to come in until she was complete. Days later, she comes out with an extravagant piece of clothing and tells him to go out to the markets to sell it. He ends up selling it for a really high price allowing them to now be wealthy. The woman then returns to the room to make more clothing. The man becomes curious as he wonders how she is able to produce this clothing without thread. He decided to enter the room despite her warning and discovers a crane in the room using its feathers to thread. The crane turns around and tells him that she became his wife to repay him for his good deed of taking care of her from the hunter incident but now that he has seen her true form, she had to leave forever.

About Danitrio Genkai Series:

The owner of Danitrio had called this series of pens "Genkai", meaning "limit" in Japanese. The intent was that this would be the largest pen series of Danitrio and no other pen would be larger than it. Little did he know that later on he would develop a series with an even larger pen called the Yokozuna.

 About the Artisan:

This pen was hand-painted by Mayumi Kumano (Mayumi). Born in 1965. She is an established maki-e artisan who learned maki-e from her father, Sadahisa Kumanoin Wajima. Many of her maki-e works have been accepted and rewarded at national art exhibitions.
