This fountain pen embodies the quiet beauty of autumn, where colors fade, leaves drift, and time slows to a contemplative pause. Inspired by the verses of Matsuo Bashō, the design reflects the fleeting grace of the season, capturing its warmth and transience.
The deep wine-colored urushi lacquer mirrors the glow of an autumn evening, providing a rich backdrop for delicate maple leaves drifting in shades of crimson, gold, and amber. Each leaf is rendered with meticulous maki-e detailing, evoking the gentle passage of time. Near the base, a delicate raden inlay graces an autumn flower, adding a subtle shimmer to the composition.
A pair of traditional straw sandals, a humble yet poignant symbol of travel and life’s impermanence, is carefully depicted on the barrel. This motif echoes the journeys of the wandering poet Bashō, whose haiku so often reflected on the transient beauty of the natural world.
Originally created for the Fountain Pen Network’s Danitrio Fellowship, a group devoted to the appreciation of Danitrio fountain pens, this piece is now available to all who seek a writing instrument infused with artistry, tradition, and poetic inspiration.
About Danitrio Sho-Hakkaku Fountain Pen Series:
The Sho-Hakkaku is a Danitrio series pen that is octagonal-shaped. Danitrio wanted to create a shorter version of the Hakkaku. Hakkaku means "discovery" in Japanese.
Nib Details:
This pen is furnished with an 18k Gold, two-toned #6 nib. What has been described by many Danitrio collectors as the fireball nib is an image of “Kaen-Kohai” which is a flame-shaped halo of “Fudo Myoo” (Acala, the God of Fire). This halo is commonly painted on the back of Japanese Buddhist statues.
An UrushiPen.com representative will contact you to confirm nib tip size preference (fine, medium, broad, or stub) following the placement of the order.
